IKEA will pay a total of $50 million to three U.S. families whose children were killed when IKEA MALM dressers tipped and fell on them. As part of the settlement, the company will also donate funds to children’s hospitals.

Two of the three children were killed in separate incidents in 2014 when MALM dressers fell on them. A 22-month-old boy was killed in 2015. The third child died after IKEA had announced its repair program for the dresser, including a free wall-anchoring kit, Reuters reported.
The Swedish company recalled approximately 8 million MALM chests and dressers, and 21 million other models, in the U.S. in June of last year.
