Over 600 international interiors manufacturers will showcase their wares at Interiors UK this weekend, Jan. 20-23 at NCE Birmingham Center in West Midlands, England. Read on for some of the highlights of this year’s show.
Famed interior designer Nina Campbell will be creating the entrance hall as well as hosting a feature space in Hall 3.
“On arrival, expect to be transported back in time to a magical and mysterious English winter’s forest,” said a show representative. “Expect a marriage of traditional, well-loved and opulent designs with a new, fresh and contemporary color palette.”
In Hall 2, Birmingham City University design students will showcase the university’s color trend project, described as innovative, creative, inspiring and provocative. These emerging young designers have interpreted Global Color Research Mix publications’ Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 forecasts, creating abundant interpretations for the new Flint and Clash Trends.
The project will provide new inspiration and demonstrate how trends can be applied from original design thinking through to the end product. Attendees will be able to explore the stunning examples, discuss ideas, create new partnerships and engage with fresh thinking by visiting the Birmingham City University stand.
The new ‘Designers Block’ area will be using young creative talent to create a totally new store concept, brand and identity—the Designers Block department store. This giant feature will include a concoction of departments featuring furniture, accessories, toys, lighting and much more, all set to be judged.
The finalist’s have been named and their products will be judged at the Designers Block exhibition, one winner will be chosen from each of the following categories:

Surfaces: Helen Dugdale, Paper Knotwood; Gemma Joyce, Room Dividers; Elsa Sandy, Lovelace light +; Ceri Stephenson, Wall paneling. Fabrics: Sian O Doherty, Percieved perceptions; Tabitha
Steward, Indiabilly; Victoria Guy, Floral Reborn; Alice Howard–Graham, Linear Geometry.
Industry recognized judges for the furniture and accessories categories are Rob Scarlett of Scarlett Design UK, Anthony Rayworth of the National Design Academy, Martin Rapko, designer at Willis & Gambier and Mark Hutchinson of Hutchinson Furniture. For the surfaces and fabrics categories judges include esteemed journalist and author Barbara Chandler, Dids MacDonald CEO of ACID and Diane Goode of Fromental.
Some key exhibitors and their products not to be missed include: New York Tolle from Timorous Beasties, Wallpaper O by JIB Design Studio, Mojo Bar Stool by Premier Housewares, Colorful Bar Stools from Ercol, Venice Cushion Box from Westminster Teak and the Salcombe Sofa from Alstons.
There is also a strong line-up of informative, thought-provoking seminars and talks which will explore the future of retail with the likes of Nayna Macintosh, Marks & Spencer’s Director of Store Design; Jonathan Webb, Retail in Action Stylus; Mark Hughes-Webb, Brandhub; Nic Cumisky, Google; Callum Lumsden, Lumsden Design; Melinda Ashton Turner, Visual Merchandising Stylist and Nina Campbell. Another new addition to the 2013 show is the WiFi café, together with the Pitfield pop up shop. Pitfield recently made an appearance at Tent London during this year’s London Design Festival and will be re-emerging at Interiors UK in Hall 4. Pitfield is an eclectic interior design shop and café in Shoreditch, London, owned by designers Shaun Clarkson and Paul Brewster.
