International contest names furniture winners
Jan 3, 2017

The 16th annual Andreu World International Design Contest has named its winners. An expert group including Gensler design director Mariela Buendia-Corrochano, architect Fran Silvestre, chef Ricard Camarena, journalist Ana Ramírez and designer Jasper Morrison, served as this year’s judging panel.

Table Project, first place winner

Makila Table Project, second place winner

First prize was awarded to Table Project by Rameshwor Pons Marimon of Mataró, Barcelona. Second prize was given to the Makila Table Project, by Alcides Farje Mutiloa of Donostia, Guipúzcoa, in Spain. Special-mention prizes went to the Mikano Chair by Thierry Gossuin of Brussels; Chair Project by Andrii Savchenko of Ukraine; Wedge Table by William George Sarnecky of the UAE; and Maia Table by Óscar Beade Pereda of Madrid.

Of the first prize winner, the jury explains: “Its design solves in one single piece and with a single movement the different uses and typologies of furniture: seating or table. It is a multifunctional design that brings together a constructive complexity in the curving of the wood, whose movement allows to create different uses according to the space in which it is.”

The awards program was started by the Spanish company Andreu World, which develops and manufactures sustainable indoor and outdoor furniture made from solid wood.
