Chaired by interior designer Oliver M. Furth, LA ART DESIGN, a new arm of the non-profit LA ART organization, will focus on 21st-century design and decorative arts as it relates to Los Angeles.
LA ART was originally founded in 2005 as a solution for L.A.'s dearth of exhibition space for contemporary artists. LA ART DESIGN furthers the original mission by expanding into an adjacent community of integral design.

“I’m very excited,” said Furth. “Contemporary, 21st-century design and Los Angeles are both longtime passions of mine and I believe we’re filling a whitespace for our city and our design community.”
LA ART DESIGN’s mission is to “question the given contexts for the exhibition of contemporary art, architecture and design.” Members will participate in intimate studio visits with leading L.A. designers and emerging makers and learn about the architectural history of the city while discovering new tenets in contemporary design.
In addition, members of LA ART DESIGN will team with Furth in creating a mix of programming meant to “push the design dialogue forward.”
On Wednesday, Jan. 28, LA ART DESIGN will host its inaugural panel discussion at the new LA ART space in Hollywood's burgeoning arts district (Santa Monica Blvd near Highland). Mayer Rus, West Coast Editor of Architectural Digest, will be leading the discussion about the L.A. design scene, along with Architect Marwan Al-Sayed and industrial designer Billy Cotton. The panel discussion begins at 7 p.m. RSVP here.
