“Southern California has always inspired dreams of the good life, but its thriving home furnishings industry may be America’s best kept secret,” said Kate Kelly Smith, SVP and publishing director of Hearst Design Group, which is the national media partner of the 18th annual Los Angeles Antiques, Art + Design Show (LAAADS) October 9 -13 at the new 3Labs Studio venue.
As part of the opening celebration for LAAADS, the Decorative Arts and Design Council will honor Annie Kelly and Tim Street-Porter, husband and wife team, as the recipients of LACMA’s prestigious Design Leadership Award.

The pair has long been recognized as innovators in the industry—Street-Porter for his architectural and design photography and Kelly as an interior decorator, design author and critic. Beyond their individual portfolios, which for Tim include Doris Duke’s Shangri La: A House in Paradise and L.A. Modern, the couple has collaborated on numerous published book titles including Casa Mexicana Style, Casa San Miguel, and their acclaimed Rooms to Inspire series for Rizzoli.
Past recipients of the Design Leadership Award include antiquarian Joel Chen and designer and entrepreneur Rose Tarlow.
The event will showcase over 50 national and international exhibitors of antique decorative and fine arts, in addition to contemporary art and design and additional programming devoted to design, the arts, and philanthropy. Returning premier sponsor 1stdibs will again host its annual Design LA lecture and reception on Friday, October 11. Donghia will be a first-time sponsor.
LACMA’s Decorative Arts and Design Council will return as the beneficiary of the Opening Night party held on October 9. The mission of this museum support group is to raise funds for the Decorative Arts and Design Department so that significant works of art can be acquired for LACMA’s permanent collection.
