LCDQ’s ‘LEGENDS’ celebrates storytelling through design

"Novel Interiors: Storytelling by Design” is the theme of the sixth-annual LEGENDS of La Cienega, a three-day event (May 7-9) starring the top names in design, held within showrooms and courtyards throughout the La Cienega Design Quarter (LCDQ) of Los Angeles.

The cornerstone of LEGENDS is the window displays, and 40 designers have been invited to transform the storefronts and showroom windows of the LCDQ, drawing from the books and novels theme. These are a few participationg designers and their themes: Diane Von FurstenbergOut of Africa at The Rug Company; Timothy CorriganValley of the Dolls at Fuller & Roberts; Jeffrey HitchcockFahrenheit 451 at Downtown; Sheldon HarteThe Invisible Man at Mecox; architect Paul WilligerThe House of Mirth at the Renaissance Design Studio; and Tristan Butterfield of Kohler—A Passage to India at Scalamandre.

2013 LEGENDS Opening Night Gala
The invitation-only Gala on Wednesday, May 7, sponsored by 1stdibs and Coldwell Banker Previews International, kicks off two days of more than 30 discussions, education, entertainment and networking events.
LEGENDS will feature five signature social events: The Gala on May 7, the Elle Decor Power Lunch and Architectural Digest Tribute Party on Thursday, May 8; and the Veranda Lunch and Veranda Closing Party on Friday, May 9. These parties are by invitation only, however, VIP pass holders will have access to them as well as guaranteed seating at the keynote panels.

The keynote panels that punctuate this year’s event include the “Power of Authenticity” with Clinton Smith, editor-in-chief of Veranda; “Back to the Future” with Pamela Jaccarino, editor-in-chief of Luxe Interiors + Design; “Glamour—A Timeless Narrative” with Mayer Rus, West Coast editor of Architectural Digest and Madeline Stuart, interior designer; “Inspired By” with John Edelman, CEO of Design Within Reach; “Don’t Hate, Collaborate” with Anthony Barzilay Freund, 1stdibs Introspective editor and the original Million Dollar Decorators; “Express Yourself” with Alison Clare Steingold, C magazine editor; “Smoke and Mirrors: Hollywood’s Public/Private residences with Alexandria Abramian, lifestyle editor for The Hollywood Reporter; and “Grand Estates: The Art of Building Big” with Susan McFadden, editor-in-chief of California Homes.
Showroom open houses will give attendees the change to meet Analisse Taft, textile and rug designer of ALT for Living; preview the new Jacques Garcia Collection at Baker Furniture; view the Dougall Paulson “Dark Matter” exhibition at Therien; have books signed by design authors including Gary McBournie, Jay Jefffers, Hutton Wilkinson, Susanna Salk, Suzanne Kasler, Timothy Corrigan and Todd Nickey.
LEGENDS two-day VIP passes are $275. A one-day VIP pass is $175. Proceeds from the sale of VIP passes will benefit Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles Chapter and the La Cienega Design Quarter Beautification Fund. Last year, $20,460 was raised through VIP pass sales.
