The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour in London is set to host an all-new event, “A Celebration of Archive” (November 4 – 15), in which leading interior designers and international design houses pair up to showcase the influence, beauty and diversity of archives on past, present and future design.
“The importance of archival material cannot be underestimated—participating showrooms here very cleverly use its historic wealth to produce products that are relevant for today’s modern living. It’s a unique seam of inspiration for designers today,” said Claire German, managing director of the Design Centre.
"A Fusion of Flowers" inspires Spencer-Churchill Designs' vignette with Pierre Frey
Devised to challenge perceived boundaries, top collaborations include those between interior designers and design houses Carden Cunietti and GP&J Baker, Taylor Howes Designs and Altfield, Edward Bulmer and Watts1874, Joanna Wood and Lewis & Wood, Spencer-Churchill Designs and Pierre Frey, Madcap Cottage and Baker, and Salvesen Graham and Zoffany.
John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon of Madcap Cottage
Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke of Madcap Cottage are the only U.S.-based designers to be participating in the exhibition. “The Madcap Cottage gents are over the moon to be crafting a space for the Celebration of Archive event at London's Chelsea Harbour Design Centre,” said Nixon. “And to be partnering with Baker and Thibaut, heaven! Step inside our glamour-themed space, and celebrate silver screen sophistication splashed with a dash of gin. Bottoms up!”
Salvesen Graham's theme "Old World Charm Dines with Contemporary Chic" for Zoffany
With original vignettes providing the visual core, “A Celebration of Archive” invites visitors to explore the possibilities of archival materials in a contemporary setting. Taking center stage is a new take on Toiles de Jouy by Christopher Moore at Lewis & Wood and bang on-trend lime embroidered silk by Branquenie at Pierre Frey chosen by Henrietta Spencer-Churchill. There is hand-blocked wallpaper by Watts1874, historic designs by Zoffany plus furniture by Tony Duquette at Baker as well as antiques and collectibles from HRW Antiques, shown in the vignettes.
