HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens) has announced that textile and rug designer Madeline Weinrib will receive the 2014 Innovator award at its fourth annual HC&G Innovation in Design Awards on August 7 at Guild Hall in East Hampton.
“Madeline Weinrib is first and foremost an artist, a wonderful painter who spun her formidable talents into an extremely successful home furnishings business,” said Kendell Cronstrom, editor-in-chief of HC&G. “Not every creative type is good at running her own company, and vice versa, but Madeline has pulled off both with enormous success. She is truly an innovator in design.”
Weinrib’s entry into design was organic. An established painter, she exhibited regularly throughout the 1990s and taught drawing at CUNY before designing her first collection for ABC Carpet & Home in 1997.
Embracing authenticity as one of her hallmark values, Weinrib’s aesthetic is defined by her use of techniques that favor hand over machine and tradition over automation. She has shaped a sophisticated signature style that is at once timeless and modern. She brings a layered and luxurious sensibility to the world of contemporary design with her collections of heirloom quality carpets and artfully conceived textiles, accessories and home accents.
The Innovation in Design Awards will also celebrate and honor top Hamptons design and designers across the categories of Architecture, Interior Design, Kitchen, Bath, Garden and Innovative Product Design.
