The Olana Partnership will honor Martha Stewart, Founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and Morrison H. Heckscher, Lawrence A. Fleischman Chairman of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, at the Frederic E. Church Award Gala on Wednesday, January 18 at the New York Public Library. The award is a celebration of art, landscape and culture.
“Olana is a great American treasure located in the nearby Hudson Valley, and we are all indebted to the Olana Partnership for their dedicated efforts to preserve this historic landmark and its picturesque landscape,” said Stewart. “Frederic Edwin Church was a true visionary in the realms of art, architecture, landscape and design and I am flattered to be recognized with an award named in his honor.”
Stewart is being honored for her commitment to American culture, decorative arts and landscape design. She has consistently turned her passion for history, architecture, landscape, design, furniture, and art into major public accomplishments. Like Frederic Church, whose greatest work of art is his home and designed landscape, Stewart has helped Americans see how they can make their homes and gardens a work of art.
As a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art staff since 1969, Mr. Heckscher is being recognized for his longstanding commitment to the field of American art and decorative arts. At this time, the FEC award is particularly fitting in that it comes when the Metropolitan celebrates the completed development and expansion of the American wing which Mr. Heckscher has overseen. He has devoted himself ceaselessly to the care, conservation, preservation and promotion of our American arts.
Lucy W. Waletzky, MD and Lulu C. Wang will serve as the event’s co-chairs. The Olana Partnership supports the conservation, preservation, development and improvement of the Olana State Historic Site, which is open to the public throughout the year. Its goal is to inspire the public by preserving and interpreting Olana, and to create the most widely recognized artist’s home and studio in the world, vibrant with the activity of students, visitors and scholars.
Tickets benefit the Olana Partnership and can be purchased starting at $1,500 at 212.245.6570 ext. 21 or email@example.com.
