Mary McDonald draws A-list for launch party
Mar 4, 2013

Interior designer and Million Dollar Decorator star Mary McDonald feted her fabric collection for Schumacher last week at Brasserie Beaumarchais in Manhattan's Meatpacking district. The inspired fabrics applied to screens, pillows and ottomans provided a lush backdrop to an elegant crowd including venture capitalist Chris Burch, fashion entrepreneur Monika Chiang, 1stdibs founder Michael Bruno, Veranda editor in chief Dara Caponigro, designers Thom Filicia, David Kelinberg and Brad Ford, among others.

"Schumacher is an amazing company to work with on a business level, and they are known for successful designer collaborations," said McDonald. "They always represent the most current, modern approach to traditional classicism—a concept in which I am well versed. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences in my entire career to create this collection."

Over the years, McDonald has used an extensive amount of Chinoiserie references throughout her work. She has also adapted geometric patterns in super-scaled sizes for floors and walls marrying the traditional Chinoiserie to modern elements.

It's a collection that truly has that range, according to McDonald. "Just remember I put these extra wide trims and appliques on the map!" she said.

McDonald currently has a rug collection for Patterson Flynn and Martin and a lighting line with Robert Abbey. What's next? "I see everything with my name on it if I may be so bold."
