At a recent press event held at NIOS Restaurant in the Muse Hotel, Heimtextil director Meike Kern, and Messe Frankfurt’s Dan McKinnon and Marc Woodman, president of the Color Marketing Group, gave editors a sneak peak into the color trends for 2012, which include juicy palettes such as Colour Riot, Dark Lux, Craft Industry and Split Clarity.
Heimtextil condenses the most important influences from fashion, architecture, society and design to produce these four international trend statements every year. Look out for these color trends in everything from furniture to textiles to fashion this season.
The Colour Riot Palette
Colour Riot is the brightest of the bunch, with Radiant Red, Bright Sky Blue and Glowing Orange. “Colour Riot is inspired by our own technology and the colors that come from computers, cell phones and television,” said Woodman. The Colour Riot palette aims to bring about a second lease on life with its bright, happy colors.
The Dark Lux Palette
On the opposite end of the trend spectrum is Dark Lux. Featuring colors such as Gloomy Burgundy, Dusky Grey and Night Forest, Dark Lux is grounded and strong. “The inspiration for this deep color palette draws from our current world state: the dire economy and a want to feel luxury and luxurious things again,” Woodman explained.
The Craft Industry Palette
Craft Industry brings to mind a softer, more rustic life with tones such as Deep Lake, Mountain Greenery and Autumn Yellow. Inspired by antique products and materials, Craft Industry seeks to combine traditional, handcrafted motifs with industrial and mechanical characteristics producing a rich, down-to-earth feel. “We looked at old, antique things, such as antique clocks, and lots of handmade materials for this color palette,” Woodman said.
The Split Clarity Palette
Split Clarity is the final color palette. A nature-inspired range of tones, Split Clarity features colors such as Acid Yellow, Snow White, Icy Mint and Soft Gray. This palette is all about the duality of clarity in its colors, taking inspiration from both technology and nature. “We actually really thought about Cloud technology with this palette,” said Woodman.
Heimtextil 2012 will feature added growth in the wallpaper, bed, furniture, and decorative fabric segments. Be sure to mark your calendars for January 11 to the 14 for the Heimtextil trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany.
