Twelve designs, culling inspiration as diverse as Damien Hirst, Matisse and geometry, will debut in Miles Redd’s collection with Patterson Flynn Martin. Redd, who made the AD 100 list in 2012, 2013 and 2014, created customizable dhurries, Moroccans, abacas, and hand-knotted Tibetans for his first rug collection for the brand, a sister company to Schumacher (where he already has a fabric collection).
Cubist, Natural; Splash, Dark Blue
Redd tells EAL, “Patterson Flynn Martin really knows rugs, and I was thrilled to collaborate with them on this new collection. I did modern takes on blue-and-white-stripe dhurries and brown-and-cream Moroccans. We explored colored abaca in great graphic patterns, and a nod to deco in the silky Tibetans. There is really something for everyone.”
Wavy Stripe, Blue; Tumbling Block, Sapphire
“We were originally going to do eight rugs, but when the samples came back, we were so thrilled that we decided to go ahead and do all of them. We’ve got 12 patterns all together, in various qualities, from textural abaca to hand-knotted Tibetan to chic flat weaves. And, of course, they can all be customized. That’s what we know how to do better than anyone else,” says Dara Caponigro, creative director of Schumacher.
Deconstructed Strip, Blue; Scribble Scrabble, Cocoa
Rug size, design scale, color and fiber are all customizable. The collection debuts this week and is on view at Patterson Flynn Martin’s D&D Building showroom, as well as others nationwide.
“What I love about working with Miles is he never fails to surprise me. His ideas are always spot on: stylish but livable,” says Caponigro. “He comes to the plate with so much knowledge of decorating that everything is just right, whether it’s the scale of the pattern or the height of the pile.”
