New home-centric concept store showcases Sonos
Aug 2, 2016

Sound system company Sonos has moved into its first-ever retail space. The new SoHo flagship is organized around a “home” theme, with seven central listening rooms, each designed with sheetrock and custom-beveled glass for “acoustically perfect” and soundproof environments for testing out Sonos sound systems.

“We know that the sound of music in your home is as important as the lighting or the furniture. Now we have a space where you can hear it for yourself,” explains the brand on its website. “We designed the spaces with studies, kitchens, and living rooms, letting you hear great sound on everything from home theater systems to turntables in the proper context. Environment matters to sound just as much as sound to environment. So each listening room also features custom furniture, visual art and lighting design that reflects some of our favorite styles and periods from the past century.”

The brand relied on illustrators and painters, including Mark Stamaty, Thibaud Herem and Mark Chamberlain, to design and hand-paint wallpaper, and sourced bookshelves and woven rugs to improve acoustics both in the space and in typical homes.
