Original shapes, hidden functions and noble materials are a few physiognomies French designer Philippe Nigro employed in creating the eight valet stands, tidies and occasional seating that make up Les Necessaires d’Hermes. Taking its name from the French “nécessaires,” Nigro designed “essential” pieces that seamlessly perform several functions.
Les Necessaires d’Hermes collection
“Faithful to its contemporary artisan ethos, Hermès continues to explore the home environment, creating objects of useful intelligence and discreet elegance to bring a touch of soul to everyday living,” said Peirre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director for Hermes, of the collection.
Certain pieces contain concealed or sliding drawers—features that offer a solution to the perennial quest for comfort and practicality. Examples include a coat rack with hangers that can be folded out or nearly invisible drawers in a sofa.
Carrés d’assise’s pieces
The Carrés d’assise’s proportions were inspired by Hermès’ silk square scarves and can be used as occasional, seating or side tables.
Groom Valet Stand
Inspired by a pommel horse in reference to the equestrian world, the Cheval-D'Arcons piece is at once a chair, coffee table and storage unit. The Groom valet stand includes a range of storage and hanging features.
