The Board of Trustees of the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) has appointed David Sprouls as the college’s seventh president. Mr. Sprouls has been serving as Acting President since January 1.
“David Sprouls was our top choice for the presidency,” said Dr. Patricia M. Sovern, Chairman of the NYSID Board and Chairman and the Presidential Search Committee.” He understands the issues NYSID faces as an institution of higher education. He brings to the position his experience and knowledge of the school and its constituencies. His personal qualities of sincerity, compassion and transparency make him the perfect leader for the NYSID community.”
In addition to serving as Acting President over the past six months, Sprouls is a long-time employee of NYSID. He was the Director of Admissions from 2000-2008 and Vice President for Enrollment Management from 2008-2011. Prior to the 12 years he has been at NYSID, David worked in admissions at Albright College and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
In a statement, President Sprouls said, “I am truly honored and excited by the opportunity to carry forward NYSID’s nearly century-old tradition of excellence in interior design education with its deep roots in the history of design and decorative arts. This vital profession, thoroughly embedded in the culture and economy of New York City, is expanding and evolving. NYSID and its students are uniquely poised to lead and innovate in both the residential and commercial fields, including the emerging and important areas of accessibility, sustainability, and healthcare design. I look forward to an exciting future.”
Sprouls comes to this role with degrees in Art History and American Studies from Rutgers University and Restoration of Decorative Arts from Fashion Institute of Technology.
Founded in 1916, the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is New York’s only private, not-for-profit college devoted exclusively to interior design education and related disciplines. NYSID’s guiding principle is that the interior environment is a fundamental element of human welfare and the college is committed to actively improving the quality of life for all segments of humanity. This ideal is put into practice by a dedicated faculty of well-known designers, architects, art historians, and authorities in the field who guide more than 800 full-and part-time students. NYSID offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs in the field of interior design. The college is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD); is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; and NYSID’s BFA is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
