Open House New York announces sites
Aug 31, 2016

A model apartment in 70 Pine, apartments in The Charles designed by David Collins, and the Clifton Residence, a passive house that is under construction in Brooklyn, are just a few of the more than 250 sites included in the 2016 Open House New York Weekend. The annual event, now in its 14th year, is dedicated to celebrating New York City architecture and design and will take place October 15 and 16 throughout all five boroughs.

“Open House New York uses buildings, and the city itself, to explore ideas and tells stories, all with the goal of creating a more informed conversation about the choices we make about New York’s future,” said Gregory Wessner, OHNY executive director, in a statement.

One of OHNY’s partners this year is the New York chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. ASLA-NY will be highlighting recent landscape architecture products in the city, including Via 57 West’s garden in Manhattan and the Naval Cemetery Landscape in Brooklyn. The event will also celebrate the centennial of the National Parks Service with special tours of Ellis Island, Hamilton Grange National Monument and General Grant National Memorial.

Other sites that are new to the OHNY lineup this year include Pier 17, Westbeth, WABC-TV, and the Metropolitan Opera House in Manhattan; the New York Wheel in Staten Island; and the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People in Queens. Favorites such as City Hall, the Brooklyn Army Terminal and the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House will be returning to the event. The full lineup will be released on October 5, including information on which sites require a reservation and $5 fee and which ones will be open for free.
