Paint sample card-inspired exhibit to be unveiled in London
Aug 11, 2015

Artist Gerhard Richter’s Colour Charts are returning to the spotlight at Dominique Lévy in the first exhibit since they were first debuted in 1966. A visit to a Düsseldorf hardware store inspired Richter’s work, who noticed paint sample cards that were starkly lacking any artistic perspective. His work, which is now presented with the support of the Gerhard Richter Archive, encompasses the original 19 Colour Charts, along with another group of charts painted in 1971.

A new tome dedicated to the artist’s original work will also debut in tandem with the exhibit, filled with newly commissioned essays by Dietmar Elger, head of the Gerhard Richter Archive; Hubertus Butin, curator and author of key texts on the artist; and Jaleh Mansoor, a professor at the University of British Columbia. The exhibit will run from October 13, 2015, to January 16, 2016, at Dominique Lévy 's 22 Old Bond St. locale in London.
