Phyllis Morris factory open to members of the trade
Jul 20, 2015

The 62-year-old West Hollywood, California, furniture manufacturer known for creating private-label furniture for the design trade and custom retail stores as well as items for specialty projects, has launched PM Factory Inc., a website designed to spread the news that the company's Los Angeles factory is available to create furniture using modern and traditional techniques.

“We’ve made a wide range of items for some pretty high-profile designers and projects—most as private label, but all with the same high standards that we are known for with our own furniture brand," says Jamie Adler, brand director and daughter of Phyllis Morris. “One of the best things about being local is that designers can watch their pieces being made from start to finish and work with our staff—something that is hard to do with offshore manufacturing. We love making other members of the trade look good, and no one has to know that it’s actually from us,” says Adler. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Recent custom work

David Phoenix and Sandra Espinet, two LA-based designers, have commissioned the factory for recent projects, and designer Amanda Borinstein shares a custom-furniture scenario of her own: “My clients wanted to create a space where their grandchildren could paint, make craft projects and build with Legos. But as the area was within an art-filled sitting room, the challenge was to make it blend with their contemporary aesthetic. I turned to Phyllis Morris to build a play table, actually two tables, with adjustable height legs that will accommodate the children as they grow. I designed a toy and game storage cabinet to attach to an entertainment center that had existed when the home was purchased," said Borinstein. "Phyllis Morris was able to match the beveled, lacquered doors and columns perfectly. I entrusted PM to provide the service, finishes and attention to detail that the clients appreciated in the other pieces they owned from this manufacturer."

Members of the trade are welcome to meet craftsmen and view the equipment at the 22,000-square-foot factory and can also check out some of the firm’s work at the Kinara Spa in West Hollywood, which features a new display cabinet and counter in high-gloss white lacquer. Learn more.
