New e-commerce consignment shop, Previously Owned by a Gay Man, is a curated site that sources, collects and sells gently used home furnishings from designers, influencers, and you guessed it, well-heeled gay men in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Previously Owned by a Gay Man is taking a tailored approach to the "recommerce" trend—the recovery of gently used products over the Internet so owners don't have to give away or pay to store those great home furnishings that just don't fit anymore. The website claims to make it easy and safe to buy and sell the items online.
"I'm always on a quest to find and pass along the next great piece in home decor, but I couldn't find an online venue that cut through the clutter and had one-of-a-kind treasures,” said Michele Hofherr, co-founder and CEO of the website. “With 'recommerce' being the next wave in shopping it seemed like an obvious time to create this marketplace.”
Co-founders Hofherr and Lindsay Snyder were inspired by a trend they saw among their design-minded friends who collectively oversaw countless home purchases and remodels throughout the years. In the process, many items were tossed aside and given to people that might not know the value of these pieces. That's when the idea for Previously Owned by a Gay Man was born.
The website is currently self-funded and Hofherr’s goal is to expand into other cities as the interest grows. The site launched last month with 200 items for sale, and the numbers are expected to grow now that the site is up and running.
To get started, sellers can fill out the online form, add photos and a description, and be on their way to selling their gently used items. Those in the market can browse items, add them to their carts, and make their one-of-a-kind purchases as well.
