The association of Spanish design companies, Red, along with Surface magazine, debuted SALON, a showcase of designs from 16 Spanish furniture, lighting and rug manufacturers, with the aim of giving a voice and stage to the best of Spanish contemporary architecture and design.
The principal of Archi-Tectonics Winka Dubbeldam was selected to design the Salon to represent Spanish’s artistic tradition and forward-thinking design techniques.
“Now people have a distinctly Spanish space where they can relax, meet friends and enjoy some cava while they are in New York City,” said Nani Marquina, President of Red.
Featured pieces in the salon include:
Dallips by BD Barcelona
Made infamous by Salvador Dalí and Oscar Tusquets, this mouth-shaped sofa was originally designed in 1972 for the Mae West room at the Dali Museum in Figueres. Now, thirty years later, it is available in a strikingly representative polyethylene version.
Round Small Mirror by Lladró
Inspired by 18th century Rococo style, this porcelain mirror replaces the traditional decorative elements with a vegetal motif. Featured in glossy black in the Salon, it is also available in matte and with a selection of gold and silver finishes.

This pendant lamp, designed by Ray Power, uses a red plywood veneer to create an organic shape. Its undulating ribbons create a rich light that cast soft tones throughout the Salon.
Roses by Nanimarquina
While a bed of rose petals would be decadent, it is not very practical. To that end Nanimarquina has created this rug of felt “petals” that create a dynamic surface – without the painful thorns.
Madagascar Wallpaper by Tres Tintas
Through its isolation from the African continent, Madagascar has maintained a unique ecosystem that is captured by this intricate wallpaper from Tres Tintas.
“Watching our network of companies come together to make one unified space demonstrates the breadth and vitality of Spanish design and is something we’re delighted to share with the U.S,” said Juan Mellen, Managing Director of Red.
SALON will be open to the public at the Tribeca Grand hotel for the next three years.
