Acclaimed modernist architect Richard Meier will design a 37-story luxury residential tower in Tel Aviv, along with turnkey residences featuring his own custom furniture. The expected completion date is first-quarter 2014. Meier-on-Rothschild is located in downtown Tel Aviv among galleries, shops and restaurants. The double duplex penthouse is the most expensive unit ever for sale in Israel with an asking price of $50 million.
The design and technology of Meier-on-Rothschild has been based upon innovative systems to facilitate environmentally-friendly living. The building will include "Chascha-maim," or smart-saved-water, an Israeli technology to reduce water consumption by 30 percent; pneumatic waste collection, which separates different waste types to maximize recycling; blinds and shading designed especially for the local climate to reduce air-conditioning use; windows and glazing to optimise the amount of light within the building; and locally sourced building materials.
Known as "the White City", Tel Aviv is a seemingly natural white for the New York-based architect and Pritzker Prize winner, who says, "At this point in my life, to be able to give something to this extraordinary city, Tel Aviv, this unique building and wonderful place to live, is the fulfillment of a lifetime dream. Since I visited Israel 50 years ago for the first time, I’ve been fascinated by the country. With Nicolas Berggruen’s commitment to art and society, I am reassured that this building will be one-of-a-kind in all aspects.” Berggruen leads Berggruen Residential, which is the developer of the building.
Amenities will include: Spa with state-of-the-art fitness center, relaxation lounge, treatment room, dry sauna and personal training room, as well as a 25-meter swimming pool and adjacent kid’s pool and Jacuzzi. A wood roof deck with lounge chairs, cabanas, and shaded pergolas. A wine cellar will function as a bar and entertaining area for hosting guests with individual wine racks in which residents can store their collections. A 24-hour concierge will assist residents in addition to maid and delivery services, in addition to six levels of underground parking.
