The River North Design District, a collaboration of on-the-street showrooms steps from the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, will host its first annual “Treasure Hunt” October 18 and 19 in an effort to drive consumer traffic to showrooms.
Participating showrooms including Casa Spazio, Chicago Luxury Beds, The Golden Triangle, Montauk Sofa, Organic Looms, The Tile Gallery, and WPA Chicago will host open houses and unveil new products to the public for the first time.
Casa Spazio will feature the New York Chair by Italian designer Sergio Bicego for the River North Design District’s Treasure Hunt.
The Golden Triangle will unveil a cocker spaniel sculpture by Amilcare Santini from Florence, Italy, valued at $9,900. It was made in circa 1900 out of silver-plated ceramic.
Chicago Luxury Beds is featuring two new products: the Anatomic Pillow and the Hästens Platinum in Limited Edition. The Anatomic Pillow was designed by a Swedish Chiropractor to give side sleepers the perfect support between their neck and shoulder. Hästens proudly presents a new color, Hästens Platinum, in limited edition.
The Tile Gallery will unveil Studio 125's newest design motif and fresh color collection and Studio 188's most recent lines and patterns.
Montauk Sofa will unveil the Chieftain's Chair originally designed by Finn Juhl Chieftain in 1949. Juhl was known for his unusual, sculptural pieces with designs clearly influenced by modern and abstract art. The Chieftain’s Chair was designed for the Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen and inspired from primitive weaponry. During the exhibition, King Frederick IX sat in his chair and suggested calling it The King’s Chair. In true understated, Danish style, Juhl didn’t care for the pretentious nature of that name and said “You’d better call it a Chieftain’s chair” to the journalist—and so it became The Chieftain’s chair.
The Organic Looms Benares Collection will be unveiled to the public for the first time. With a twist on the traditional, these patterns have been rejuvenated with bright colors and broken patterns, and are available with or without a long silk fringe.
WPA Chicago will host a two-day trunk show featuring artisan textile company Dermond Peterson with designer Susan Peterson on October 19. Attend the event either day and enter to win special Dermond Peterson gifts.
The River North Design District, founded in 2013, is open to designers, consumers, pets and children.
