Roche Bobois and Gaultier exhibit travels to Germany
Sep 9, 2015

Interior design meets fashion in the "Jean Paul Gaultier–from the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" exhibition, coming to Munich’s Kunsthalle museum from September 18, 2015 to February 14, 2016. Previously unreleased pieces from the designer's ready-to-wear and haute couture collections, spanning the 1970s to the present day, will be on view at the Roche Bobois-partnered exhibition. Gilles Bonan, CEO of Roche Bobois, explained, “Fashion and interior design have always shared a creative affinity, valuing beauty, boldness and dynamism above all, as well as fine craftsmanship and an eye for detail.”

The designer and the furniture brand have been collaborating since 2010. Some of the featured pieces include chests of drawers designed by Gaultier; Couture and Matelot edition fabrics created by Gaultier for the Mah Jong modular sofa by Roche Bobois, in addition to the Florian armchair, upholstered with Gaultier fabrics, and the Ben Hur armchair, which was designed by the fashion icon. Said Gaultier, “Dressing furniture for Roche Bobois has been an exciting exploration of creative grounds for me. I have always loved creatively dressing models and furniture but at least with the latter they don’t complain when you accidentally jab them with a pin!”

The Munich stop is the latest on the exhibition's tour, which previously visited the Brooklyn Museum, London's Barbican museum and Paris's Grand Palais. Learn more here.
