In honor of its 75th anniversary, Seguso has opened an exhibition of work entitled “Seguso Vetri d’Arte” at the Glass Museum in Murano, Italy.
The exhibition examines the evolution of a multi-generational family business that helped shape the development of the art of glass throughout its 75-year history.
Angelo and Giampaolo Seguso
The family forge, in which Antonio Seguso, his son Archimede, and his grandchildren work, became a company in the early 1930s during a period of great innovation, experimentation and manufacturing design.
Flavio Poli on the furnace demonstrating the craft
Under the artistic direction of Flavio Polo, a series of top master glassmakers worked for them over the years, soon becoming recognized makers in their own right. Over the decades, the artistic production developed alongside major private projects; glass was used in every possible form, for furnishing, lighting and decoration.
Seguso Murano glass design
Seguso has exhibited at the Triennale di Milano, the Venice Biennale and many other important international fairs and events over the years. This exhibition, organized by Belgian scholar Marc Heiremans who is an expert in the history of contemporary Murano glass, traces out the fundamental artistic contribution made by this famous glass making company.
It will be on display through September 29 at the Glass Museum, Fondamenta Giustinian, 8 – Murano. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Full price admission is 8,00 euro and children and seniors are admitted for 5,50 euro.
