Sub-Zero and Wolf Appliance have announced the national award winners of their bi-annual Kitchen Design Contest. First place winner in the contemporary kitchen category was Jose Eduardo Calma of Lor Calma & Partners from Makati City, Philippines; and in the traditional category was Vasi Ypsilantis of The Breakfast Room Ltd. from Manhasset, New York. The second place and Designer's Choice Award Winner: E.J. Meade, Claire Jordan, and Ken Andrews of Arch 11, Inc. from Boulder, Colorado. The third place winner was Robin Pittman of Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio from Atlanta, Georgia. Out of more than 1,400 entries, a panel of judges who are distinguished professionals in the kitchen design arena selected 50 regional finalists in late January. The first-place winners receive a cash prize of $15,000, the second-place winner received $10,000, and the third-place winner received $5,000.The regional finalists received a $500 cash prize and a trip for two to The Breakers for a four-day celebration last month, where the judges reassembled to determine the national winners. The following professionals were enlisted by Sub-Zero and Wolf to select the winners based on superior use of space, beautiful kitchen design, and integration of Sub-Zero and Wolf products: • Jamie Drake of Drake Design Associates, New York, NY • Jeffrey DeMure, AIA, of Jeffrey DeMure + Associates, El Dorado Hills, CA • Cheryl Hamilton-Gray, CKD, of Hamilton-Gray Design, Carlsbad, CA • Matthew Quinn of Design Galleria Ltd., Atlanta, GA • Barbara Houston of Houston + Associates, Vancouver, BC, Canada • Dalia Tamari of Dalia Kitchen Design, Boston, MA • Doug Durbin of nuHaus, Highland Park, IL "There is nothing in the industry on this level like the Kitchen Design Contest for us to showcase our work," said Vasi Ypsilantis, first-place winner. "The quality of architecture and design of the kitchens that are submitted in this contest are really top of the line.
