Tapio Anttila recognized for best "green" product design

Anttila received the second-ever "Green" GOOD DESIGN Award for his Tuohi product series. The designer was selected from a pool of thousands of submissions from 46 nations.
The Tuohi birch bark objects are produced ecologically and are fully recyclable and manufactured by Showroom Finland. The series includes wall elements, trays and a light fitting made of birch bark.

Based in Lahti, Finland, Anttila is especially interested in Finnish wood and how to work on it in a modern way, at the same time following the traditions. He has worked as an inhouse furniture designer at Isku Oy as well as chief interior architect on the Helsinki Vantaa Airport, at PES Architects Oy.

Derived from the GOOD DESIGN Award, the ecology-driven Green GOOD DESIGN Award is designed to emphasize the importance of sustainable design and to raise consumer awareness of companies that adhere to the principles of sustainable design in their operations.
The GOOD DESIGN awards are granted by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., the GOOD DESIGN Award is the oldest design award in the world.
