The Design Council, a UK-based organization connecting decision makers with design solutions, has announced the launch of a new £100,000 fund to help not-for-profit design organizations communicate the benefits of design, drive up demand for design services, and put design at the heart of economic growth.
The Council will be awarding small grants to help boost current and future initiatives of design organizations, and to reach a wider audience of design buyers and users on local, regional and national levels. A maximum of £10,000 will be awarded to any one organization, however most grants will be between £1,000 and £5,000.
The concept behind the grant is to communicate the fact that design has a vital role in translating ideas into brands, products, services and systems, and is at the heart of some of the world’s most successful businesses.
"By supporting the industry the Council is facilitating knowledge sharing and helping to build the capability of designers and design organisations to promote themselves and their services to a wider range of design clients and buyers," chief executive of the Design Council, David Kester.
A selection panel chaired by a Council member of the Design Council and including design industry representatives will review the applications and select the successful ones.
