This past October, SUITE New York launched the Pink Swan Project to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) where Arne Jacobsen's iconic Swan chair served as the canvas for 19 renowned interior designers, architects and fashion designers. The initiative was a continuation from last year's event, the Pink Wishbone project, which used Hans Wegner's Wishbone chair as a foundation.
The segment below features interviews with a few of the designers including Chris Kraig, David Mann, D.B. Kim, Vicente Wolf and Madeline Weinrib who created chairs for the event.
Chris Kraig was inspired by artists Boris Lewis and Helen Frankenthaler, as well as musician Al Stewart and his song, The Year of the Cat: "She walked out of the sun in a silk dress running like a watercolor in the rain." David Mann was inspired by an evening gown using feathers and soft texture to evoke the idea of the swan. D.B. Kim was inspired by a radiating, healing pattern incorporating the crystal from Swarovski crystal. Vicente Wolf was inspired by the pink ribbon, making it the central focus of his chair. Madeline Weinrib added a piece of antique Suzani to add a unique personal touch. She was inspired by her mother who died of breast cancer.
Other participating designers included Alexandra Von Furstenburg, Campion Platt, Jamie Drake, Jonathan Adler, Karim Rashid, Kelly Hoppen, Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Milly de Cabrol, Nate Berkus, Simon Doonan, Victoria Hagen and Windsor Smith.
