This Wednesday and Thursday, Ubifrance, the French Embassy's agency for International Business Development, will showcase a curated selection of 30 French "haute décor" designers at the Felissimo Design House in Manhattan. The exhibition, Maison France, introduces the companies' newest luxury collections to the US market.
Categories are furniture, lighting, textiles, tableware and decorative accessories. This year marks the first showcase in the U.S., though Ubifrance has presented previous exhibitions in Abu Dhabi and Moscow.
"The purpose of the exceptional ‘Maison France’ exhibition is to present to the New York Interior Design industry the excellence of the French know-how in luxury décor, world renowned for its exquisite aesthetic and superior quality,” said Christophe Lecourtier, General Manager of Ubifrance.
Participating companies include: Alain St. Joanis Atelier Meriguet, Bassaisteguy-Masson, Bronzes de France, Diversion, Ed Participation, Ego, Elie Bleu, Ercuis-Raynaud, HB Henriot Faienceries de Quimper, Henryot et Cie, Lamellux, Lapparra, Liberty, Luminaires Lucien Gau, Maison Degroote et Mussy, Maison Fey, Maison Gatti, Moissonier, Pouenat, Remy Garnier, Sieges d'Argentat, Taillardat, THG, Tisserant Art and Style, Ulgador, Valombreuse Cocoon Limited, Verodalla, Verreries de Brehat and Volevatch.
Each company featured as part of Maison France has been recognized by the French government with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label — a mark of recognition to reward French firms for the excellence of their traditional and industrial skills. The companies are considered guardians of rare skills, antique machinery and/or archives, contribute to regional life and employment, and play a part in France’s economic and cultural standing. Since it was introduced two years ago, the label has been awarded to more than 750 French companies, and has allowed them to receive assistance from commercial and professional organizations, financial support, and communication tools.
The exhibition will be on view at 10 West 56th Street to the design trade on Wednesday from 9am-6pm, and to the general public on Thursday from 12-5pm.
The French Trade Commission-Ubifrance and VERANDA magazine will host a closing reception celebrating the EPV label.
