Urby development concept to open in Jersey City
May 31, 2017

Following last year's opening on Staten Island, Urby is opening its second location, this time in Jersey City, in a seeming strategy of opening residential rental complexes in underdeveloped metro areas. The building, which reaches 713 feet, is New Jersey’s tallest residential building and spans 762 apartments. Co-developed by Ironstate Development and Roseland Residential Trust, the residence was designed by renowned Dutch architecture and interiors firm Concrete, known for designing citizenM Hotels around the world and W Hotels in London and Switzerland.

Located at 200 Greene Street on the Jersey City waterfront, the residence, similar to its Staten Island Urby predecessor, includes a number of communal spaces, including a garden room, heated pool and outdoor deck, and communal kitchen.

“When I looked at boutique hotels, what was going on and why people were responding to that, I think that it went beyond the insistency of product, even the design of the product,” David Barry, president of Ironstate Development, told local news outlet NJ BIZ. “It really became the whole experience. Thoughtfulness of details and ultimately getting the residents and the occupants to connect with the property and with each other. That’s what I saw made boutique hotels powerful and why they became a force.”

The building has been open for two months and is now 50 percent leased.
