Four Vancouver architectural designers have been chosen to participate in the first annual “Lighting Architecture Movement Project” (LAMP) event, a live design installation exhibition and creative challenge held in Vancouver, B.C. October 3–5.
Participating designers received a thematic word to interpret in their own way. Once allocated a size-specific area in the Woodward’s space, they were offered lighting options to create their own art installation. The designers have had three months to conceptualize their design and will have two days to install it in the space.

The designers include Bryn Davidson, co-owner of Lanefab Design/Build; Oliver Neumann, Professor UBC, Architekt (working with partner Cristian Schmitt); Simon Montgomery, designer at Evoke International Design; and Jorge Siemsen, founder of Jorge Siemsen Architecture & Design, from Brazil, now living in Vancouver.
In an effort to expand the first annual design challenge/exhibition event, LAMP has also invited eight local artists to participate in a "side project." Each have been given a 'TRESS' lamp, donated by foscarini. What the artists choose to do with the lamps is entirely up to them. The eight lamps will be auctioned off, with proceeds shared between the artists and LAMP's charity organization, the Arts Umbrella, a local not-for-profit arts education centre for children and youth.
On Thursday, October 3, LAMP will host a one-night private exhibition celebrating the designers’ efforts from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased in advance on the LAMP website.
The space will then be open to the public by donation on October 4 and 5 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and proceeds will cover the designers’ costs.
LAMP was created for professional designers to have an opportunity to reimagine their talents in conceptual explorations and have the community connect with architecture and design events.
