"We're thrilled that the Curbed Network is now a part of the Vox Media family, and we're proud to continue our commitment to lifestyle brands that connect with modern audiences," read the Vox Media homepage this morning, officially announcing the $20-30 million dollar acquisition—an estimated mix of stocks and cash—of the Curbed Network.
Vox Media is one of the fastest-growing online publishers, focused on lifestyle brands that connect with passionate audiences. Vox works to solve the problem of developing high-value digital journalism, storytelling and brand advertising at scale, and its audiences are among the most engaged and affluent on the web.
Founded in 2003, Vox Media has two headquarters, one in New York City and one in Washington, D.C., and with the acquisition of Curbed, now owns six brands including The Verge, SB Nation, Polygon, Eater and Racked. The brands range from sports to technology to video games and now real estate, food and fashion.
Curbed was founded in 2004 by Lockhart Steele as a real estate blog. As of 2013, there are a dozen city-specific editions that include New York, the Hamptons, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Chicago, Detriot, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Seattle, as well as Curbed National, which interior designer Jonathan Adler describes as a "daily must read."
