Westchester Magazine crowns the best in suburban design
Feb 6, 2015

Great design can come in any form—from a penthouse apartment in midtown to a four-story brownstone on the Upper East Side and certainly not to be forgotten are the sprawling mansions in the suburbs just north of New York City. For the fourth year, Westchester Home Magazine announced the winners of its fourth-annual design awards, naming the best suburban homes from Greenwich, Connecticut, to Chappaqua, New York.
At a gala last month, the magazine crowned the designers and architects who contributed to the award-winning residences. More than 150 guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner as they listened to Westchester Home’s Executive Editor Jenn Andrlik and Editor at Large Nancy Soriano announce the winners in seven different categorie
The judging for this year’s awards was a two-step process: A nominating committee composed of Phyllis Harbinger, the president of ASID NY Metro Chapter and principal at Design Concepts/Interiors; Kim Freeman of Kim Freeman Style and Design; Jacqueline Hosford of Jacqueline Hosford Interior Design; John D. Fry, president of AIA Westchester and Hudson Valley; and Raymond Beeler, president of the AIA chapter of New York State and principal of Gallin Beeler Design Studio, first reviewed all submissions and narrowed the selection down to the top 21 finalists.
These finalists were then reviewed by a panel of faculty members from the New York School of Interior Design, including Veronica Whitlock, Margaret Minz, Don Kossar and John Buscarello, who selected the winners in each category.
The 2015 Design Awards winners are as follows:

Bathroom: Leslie Gustafson of Leslie Gustafson & Co. in Bedford, New York.

Dining Room: Mimi Fong of Luminosus Designs in Scarsdale, New York.

Entry Hall: Daniel Contelmo of Daniel Contelmo Architects in Chappaqua, New York.

Kitchen: Randy O’Kane and Danielle Florie of Bilotta Kitchens in Rye, New York with Stedila Design

Master Suite: Daniel Contelmo of Daniel Contelmo Architects in Chappaqua, New York.

Whole Home Design: Andrew Kotchen and Matthew Berman of workshop/apd in Briarcliff Manor, New York.
The winners and their projects will be showcased in the magazine’s spring 2015 issue, on newsstands March 11. Submissions are now being accepted for the 2016 competition online.
