By MARIANNE ROHRLICH Brad Ford, a Manhattan designer, furnished his room at this year’s Hampton Designer Showhouse with porch swings instead of couches (left). Mr. Ford, one of the 25 decorators who worked on the house in Water Mill, on Long Island, said he wanted the indoor-outdoor screened room to have “a classic porch look” that was “comfortable and luxurious.” It is certainly luxurious: the swings, custom made, retail for about $5,000 each, Mr. Ford said; he was unable to find anything ready-made that fit his decorating scheme. (For those more interested in comfort than luxury, an assortment of porch swings sell for about $200 to $1,000 at porchswings.com and porchswingsplus.com.) “You certainly could use porch swings in a living room, too,” he added — just be sure to sink the bolts into a ceiling joist so they are secure. The showhouse is open through Sept. 6 at 179 David’s Lane, Water Mill, N.Y., (631) 726-8099; information: hamptondesignershowhouse.com.
