Over a dozen showrooms open across the U.S.

The two coasts are buzzing with this season’s latest showroom openings, from brands changing locations and receiving upgrades to others making New York their first permanent home in the U.S. Eco-friendly names are focusing on preservation and resource use, while long-standing brands are celebrating big anniversaries. EAL rounds up the top picks for showrooms from coast to coast, and one that lands in between.

NEW YORK

Next month, furniture design company Bungalow 5 is opening a 5,000-square-foot retail space and wholesale showroom in New York. This is the first time the brand will be attracting both retail and wholesale customers to one location in New York, where its full collection of products will be available for the customers to see in designed rooms. Scheduled to open next month, Carl Hansen & Son’s New York showroom has moved to the Flatiron District from its first U.S. space in SoHo. The new showroom has three glass concept spaces, a materials lab for testing finishes, and a kitchen and dining space for private events. (251 Park Ave.)

Making its debut last fall, Poliform’s newest New York offering is a 10,000-square-foot, two-story showroom in the heart of New York’s emerging Midtown East design district. The Madison Avenue storefront was designed to have a “home-like” appearance, with kitchens, living rooms, wardrobes and bedrooms showcasing the Italian brand’s modern furniture. (112 Madison Ave.)


Poliform 

On the precipice of its 10th anniversary this year, Lee Broom opened its first permanent North American showroom in New York after the success of its spring pop-up shop Broom off Broome. The 800-square-foot space, designed to be reminiscent of Lee Broom’s London flagship, showcases the brand’s full lighting, furniture and accessories collections. Lee Broom also has plans for a Los Angeles showroom on the edge of the Arts District. (34 Greene St.)

Eskayel’s in-house team designed a clean, airy, light-filled space for the brand’s first showroom, serving both design professionals and consumers, in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Some of the eco-friendly brand’s textiles, wallcoverings, rugs and accessories can be purchased at the store, and its full portfolio is available to be ordered. Eskayel focuses on custom-making products to reduce waste and overproduction. (75 S. 6th St., Brooklyn)

Jean and Oliver Pelle made the jump across the river from Red Hook, Brooklyn, to lower Manhattan to debut their personally designed PELLE showroom and studio. The new 5,000-square-foot space evokes what the brand is known for—expressive design and architectural integrity—with a showroom, two production bays and a kitchen for prototyping. (56 W. 22nd St.)

Élitis has arrived at the Decoration and Design Building, where it opened its first permanent showroom in the U.S. The French brand, known for its textural wallpaper, textiles, wallcoverings and bespoke furniture collections, will be housed in a 2,900-square-foot space with 40-foot-tall windows and a loft-like space made of raw, natural materials and light woods. Élitis

Design duo Consort, headed by Mat Sanders and Brandon Quattrone, is now bi-coastal, after opening its first New York showroom last year. Both Quattrone and Sanders started their careers in New York, so ever since opening their Los Angeles outpost, they knew a New York showroom was in their future. The showroom is both for the trade and consumers, and caters to the New York crowd, focusing on small-living, with inventive floor plans and smaller furniture options. (155 Duane St.)


Consort

Exquisite Surfaces opened its 5,000-square-foot Commune-designed flagship showroom in SoHo last year. The company, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, wanted to create a showroom that pays homage to the history of the brand, while also looking to the future, putting preservation and sustainability at the forefront of product selections. The showroom’s design was inspired by midcentury exhibit designs to put focus on the materials and patterns offered by Exquisite Surfaces. (95 Vandam St.)

NEW JERSEY

Design Within Reach has made itself a fixture at New Jersey’s Westfield Garden Plaza with a 12,000-square-foot studio featuring an exclusive exterior glass entrance. The retail space will house Design Within Reach’s offerings in tabletop, decorative goods, furniture and barware, including pieces from Knoll, Herman Miller, Emeco and Alessi. Customers are put first at Farrow & Ball’s new showroom in Paramus, with its focus on enhancing the color selection process by carefully designing the space with a consultation desk and color wall. The brand’s Color Consultancy service will also be available at the showroom, allowing customers to experiment with colors, patterns and finishes. (160 Route 17 North)

PHILADELPHIA

Thos. Moser has relocated its Philadelphia showroom to the ever-growing Center City retail area. The new, 2,900-square-foot space showcases the brand’s handmade American furniture, including seating, bedroom furniture and dining sets. The Maine designer's arrival in Philadelphia was prefaced by when the company made chairs for Pope Francis’s visit to the city last year. (1605 Walnut St.)

FLORIDA

Artefacto, the Brazilian furnishings company, officially opened its first-ever shop-in-shop in its Aventura showroom, Artefacto Home. The new installation will feature an assortment of contemporary organic home accessories, including teardrop glass vases, onyx slice sculptures and antiqued ceramic pots. The showroom’s recent renovation also includes a new master suite and outdoor vignettes. (17651 Biscayne Blvd., Aventura)

CALIFORNIA

On theme with its other stores, the design of Serena & Lily’s newest store in Newport Beach reflects its surroundings, incorporating a blue-and-white color palette and natural materials. Exclusive to this location is a paddle installation painted by co-founder Serena Dugan. The store offers swatches of all the brand’s textiles, as well as an assortment of furniture, decor and outdoor living pieces. (3636 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach)


Serena & Lily

Barclay Butera recently opened his newest showroom in Corona Del Mar, and is approaching this showroom differently than his others. Design services will still be offered, but more focus will be put on retail and gift aspects of the shop. The showroom is marked with Butera’s signature blue-and-white decor that is evocative of his showrooms in West Hollywood, Newport Beach and Park City, Utah. Offerings include furniture, fabrics, carpets, lighting and art. (2824 East Coast Highway, Corona Del Mar)

ILLINOIS

Mick De Giulio, internationally renowned kitchen designer, designed the latest expansion of the Abt Electronics showroom in Illinois in honor of the brand’s 80th anniversary. De Giulio was picked to design the new expansion, the Inspiration Studio, by the brand’s patriarch, Bob Abt, who passed away last year. “We named the space the Inspiration Studio because dad was an inspiration to the entire staff at Abt who respected him not just as a boss, but as a mentor,” says Mike Abt, co-president with his brother Jon Abt. The studio adds 10,000 square feet to the over 100,000-square-foot showroom and includes 12 spaces devoted to individual manufacturers, including Bosch, Sub-Zero, Thermador and La Cornue—all equipped for live cooking demonstrations.
