ASID hosts student competition

ASID New York Metro partnered with Kravet for the second time for the ASID Student Textile Design Challenge. Thirty design students from New York School of Interior Design (NYSID), ParsonsSchool of Visual ArtsFashion Institute of Technology and New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) were divided into eight teams and tasked with designing a fabric from an assigned architectural and design style. The teams were mentored by eight ASID professionals, including Rhonda Eleish, Tamara Eaton, Lee Melahn, Charles Pavarini III, Brooke Lichtenstein, Jan Jernoske, Phyllis Harbinger and Bridgette Gottlieb

The winning design was revealed at Kravet’s showroom at the New York Design Center last month. Destiny Bates of NYIT, Connor Lucas of Parsons, Paul Lee of NYSID and mentor Jernoske of Transitional Interiors created the winning design, which was upholstered on a Kravet chair.

“Their beaux-arts textile transformed the traditional style into a creative and modern reinterpretation,” says Bonnie Hoeker, ASID student representative, of the winning design. “It really embraced the digital printing method by adding texture through color depth rather than it being woven.”
