Job Description

The successful Director of Special Projects has a wide range of experience overseeing and executing interior design and related projects. They have the ability to understand an overall creative vision, while also being laser focused on details. They have a proven ability to manage a large portfolio of projects and priorities simultaneously, and have the leadership ability to build momentum to ensure timely, accurate delivery from both internal and external teams.

• Working with Creative Director to implement vision
• Overseeing the design, build, renovation and construction of showrooms, exhibition spaces, temporary and permanent installations, sets for photo shoots, event related props and sets, etc.
• Planning and executing internal and external interior design projects, small- and large-scale
• Managing each project by establishing project objectives, timelines, schedules, budgets and project deliveries
• Creating time-in-action calendars for existing and projected projects
• Creating and managing budgets, developing accurate estimates and negotiating pricing
• Maintaining FF&E schedules, executing orders with workrooms, vendors and subcontractors
• On-site project managaing including oversight of electricians, contractors, architects, landlords
• Managing internal team and outside suppliers to create and execute custom products and projects
• Providing specifications to suppliers for finish plans, specifications, material procurement
• Partnering with development and production departments to address competing priorities with overlapping suppliers
• Coordinating with consultants, contractors, fabricators and vendors to meet project objectives and deadlines
• Overseeing project-based staff as needed

Job Requirements

• Interior Design experience including knowledge of AutoCAD and SketchUp
• Extensive and proven project management experience and ability
• Advanced capability in building consensus, managing, leading, coordinating multiple players to achieve a common goal, developing teams and sub-groups, ability to manage remotely
• Proven success in managing a large portfolio of projects and priorities simultaneously
• Superior communication skills
• Experience working with architects, contractors, electricians
• Experience with drapery, upholstery, cabinetry, and metal workshops
• Knowledge of pre-construction services, construction strategy, commercial construction or facilities leadership
• Negotiation experience, both on timeline and cost
• Ability to formulate and implement strategic plans
• Strategic, solutions-based thinking and drives for results
• Possesses analytical and presentation skills that are both macro and micro
• Ability to travel, both domestic and international
