Romo Group
Zinc Textile's Runway Collection featuring René Gruau
René Gruau worked at the forefront of couture fashion for more than 60 years, creating daring and exciting advertising images for top fashion houses and publications including Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue. With a broad flowing brushstroke and blocks of seductive colour, Gruau masterfully captured the energy, elegance and spirit of couture from the 1940s right up until his death in 2004 at the age of 95. Now, for the first time, Zinc Textile, the Romo Group’s avant-garde line of fabrics, introduces Gruau’s work to the interiors market with 12 iconic images digitally printed, in a variety of scales, on cotton satin. Edited in distinctive groups, the images tell of three of Gruau’s signature themes: his colourful and vivacious portrayal of women; his concept of the suave Modern Man; and the sexy connotations of the beach, reflecting his glamorous life in Cannes on the Cote d’Azur. The other printed and woven designs in the Runway Collection are taken from a fashion archive and adapted in scale, and colored in soft ice-cream shades and exuberant brights, for use in the home. Bold colorful checks and over-sized boucle weaves suggestive of Chanel are balanced with exotic, tropical florals and exquisite Pucci-esque swirls printed on light, floaty silk and elegant velvet usually reserved for apparel. The Runway Collection featuring René Gruau is available at the Thomas Lavin showroom in the Pacific Design Center.
