Artist Collaborations

Peace Industry is a San Francisco-based rug company that specializes in the age-old technique of felted wool rugs. They're the only designer, producer and retailer of Iranian-made felt rugs and they operate the only workshop in the world that produces this type of rug.

The Collaborations 2017 collection is a collaboration with four independent artists & designers; Disc InteriorsHinterland DesignRaha Raissnia and Alison Damonte. The collection explores ancient felt making techniques in new and innovative ways. All four collaborations focus on experimentation with new processes.

Alison Damonte is a San Francisco based interior designer focusing on “everyday, accessible craft.” Her collection takes inspiration from minimalist, abstract painters, like Frank Stella and Sol Lewitt.

Hinterland Design is  Vancouver-based design studio founded by artist & designer, Riley McFerrin, focuses on locally sourced and salvaged materials to create modern designs. The Fringe and Radius rugs designed for the Peace collection take a post-modern turn with Memphis-deco inspired geometric shapes floating on a pale gray field.

Disc Interiors This L.A.-based design firm owned by Krista Schrock and David John Dick values the balance between traditional and modern pieces. The collection introduces the use of fringe and felted-in yarns to create wabi-sabi linear patterns. Felting two colors in one layer enhances the reversible nature of felt rugs.

Raha Raissnia is a New York-based painter, filmmaker and performance artist. As a multi-medium artist, her designs in collaboration with Peace Industry are based on her black and white oil paintings and black and white films, using a “raw and unstructured” aesthetic.
